| The junior troop which meets next door to us at Lasell asked us to run some activity stations for a Glamour Day event. Junior girls painted their nails and learned how healthy eating can make you beautiful. They tried on necklaces and earrings and learned to tie a scarf. |
| Cadettes and Seniors from several Newton troops got together to try traversing a high rope. Girls wore harnesses like we used when we went rock climbing. A belayer kept them safe while they walked across a cable 20 feet up in the air. |

For the silver project we will be editing our PSAs and filming a couple of TV shows for kids. One show will be about home science experiments of the sort we have done in the past at Lasell science workshops. We will also be filming the physics of sports.
At this meeting we spent most of the time editing the PSAs we had filmed in previous years.
It is going to take a long time to edit all the work we have already done.
A general rule of thumb is it takes about 4 times as long to edit work as it takes to film it. |

Top Chef is an outdoor cooking competition among all levels of Girl Scouts.
For our entry we made a s'mores cake. Instead of flour it uses crushed graham crackers. Marshmallow fluff gets spread in between the layers and it is frosted with melted chocolate. We grilled pineapple chunks and used them to surround the cake.
After completing our cake we got to sample the desserts everyone else made, too! |

We hosted a science workshop at Lasell for Brownies and Juniors. Girls learned to identify leaves, made invisible ink, learned about optical illusions, recycled paper, made kaleidoscopes, learned about friction, made silly putty, learned about hydrolysis of water, observed crystals, and made their own ice cream. |

The encampment theme this year will be Harry Potter.
At the encampment, some of our girls will be playing the games and some will be leading younger girls. At this meeting each of our girls chose which she wanted to do, play or lead. Next we chose menus for what we would cook while there. Afterwards we made swaps to trade with other girls at the encampment feast. |

The Harry Potter encampment was a lot of fun.
Most of our girls chose to lead the younger girls during the morning activity period.
For Herbology they made mandrakes out of odd socks filled with grass seed and dirt.
Care of magical creatures had girls constructing dragons out of egg cartons.
For Potions they mixed a drink using soda and sherbet.
Some of our girls chose not to lead the younger girls. They played a version of Quidditch (without flying brooms). It was a lot of fun. Then they visited Hogsmeade and went to Zonko's joke shop. After lunch girls lashed brooms and whittled wands. They baked molten chocolate cookies, which were eaten while watching the movie Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. |
| We spent spent some time planning our next couple of meetings, during which we will film some segments for the Silver project. Garyela wants to take an underwater picture of a swimmer. Emma wants to film people jumping on her trampoline. Both of these would be for the Physics of sports segment. Ilana will bring in makings for Silly Putty and Melissa will bring in Chromatography supplies. |

We have been having trouble getting the NewTV studio booked, so we borrowed a portable camera and did some filming at Lasell. We filmed two segments - Ilana and Devon did silly putty and Melissa did chromatography. The filming went well. The sound quality is not as good as we get at NewTV, but it is acceptable. |
| We filmed two more segments at Lasell - Rachel K and Melissa filmed soda and mentos, then Devon and Ilana filmed oobleck. We are getting the hang of filming. This time was smoother than the last one. |

Back at NewTV for more editing of PSAs and more filming.
Rachel K brought in fruit for healthy snacks. Unfortunately, George called in the middle of the meeting. Edna's basement had flooded and she had to return home to deal with the mess. Things got kind of chaotic at NewTV and somehow we ended up not recording the fruit snacks segment on film. What a disappointment! |
| This time we filmed three segments: Naz and Ilana made baking soda/vinegar volcanoes. Devon and Naz showed how you can make your own ice cream. The ice cream was actually made using whole milk instead of cream so it is healthier. Then Kylie and Emma made healthy cookies using oatmeal. More editing was done on the PSAs and we also began editing the previously taped segments for the show. |
