This unit includes:

• a silkworm's cocoon
• a skein of raw silk
• a sample of silk sewing thread
• a swatch of dark blue habutai (silk cloth)
• a swatch of bleached habutai
• a 24-page booklet containing 27 experiments

Silk cocoons and raw silk fibers are available from specialty handicraft shops such as The Yarn Tree or Dollmakers Ink. An ounce (30 g) of cocoons (about 35-40 cocoons) costs about US$3.

An earlier silk unit was produced in March 1949 (unit 101).
